Members and volunteers are invited to help the Society t
idy and tend to its buildings after a long winter in preparation for the upcoming program season.

We'll sweep, dust and wash windows and move furniture back into place. A potluck luncheon for members and volunteers follows at 1 p.m.

Sharing their knowledge and demonstration of local culture, fiber arts from samplers to sails, everyday history, sheep farming and much more, the Dirty Blue Shirts living historians will bring the past to life in the Society’s historic buildings and on the Green. Free and family friendly.

The Society will host Field Trips for 3rd and 5th grade Waterford elementary school children. Professional historians and Society

will offer historic tours, crafts and readings about

1954 Hallmark Hall of Fame movie presentation about composer Edward a. MacDowell and Marian Nevins MacDowell, herself an accomplished pianist and whose family owned large tracts of land east of Jordan Village in Waterford, Connecticut. The MacDowells founded the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire that has produced world renowned figures in the arts

6th Annual Art In Waterford  - Juried Art Show
​Upper level of the Rufus and Margo Rose Theater Barn, O'Neill Theater Center, Waterford.  Featuring local artists of the present and future artists from area middle/high schools. Most artworks will be for sale. There will also be drawings to win two paintings by local artists. 


This time, the Society is expanding its perspective of art to feature music, recognizing two artists from Waterford’s past: famous composer Edward A. MacDowell, who was married to Marian Nevins, herself an accomplished pianist and whose family owned large tracts of land east of Jordan Village in Waterford, Connecticut.

"Harvest to Hearth: Thanksgiving in 1850s Waterford" With the Dirty Blue Shirts.  With a focus on the Thanksgiving holiday and what that meant for our mid-19th-century Waterford ancestors: food, family, gratitude for what we have, remembering those who are gone, charity for those who have less than we do. Living historians present activities and share knowledge of harvesting and preserving. Observe hearth cooking. Take turns at the cider presses at Stacy Barn! Tour historic buildings. Watch the blacksmiths at the forge.   • Members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings; visitors are always welcome and may join the Society at meetings and events.

    ​The Ralph Madara Blacksmith Shop
    is open most Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members operate the forge and visitors are welcome to observe the smiths at work. Check the Facebook page for announcements regarding any closures.
