Waterford Historical Society (CT)

The Waterford Historical Society, Inc. has received a $650 Collections Assessment Grant from Conservation ConneCTion, a program that provides small and mid-sized museums with a free assessment of their museum or archive collections. The Society will receive a half-day site visit from a museum curator or archivist who will examine collections on exhibit, in storage, and policies and procedures related to collection care and management, and provide a written report.
Founded in 1967, the Waterford Historical Society, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization offering tours of its historic buildings on Jordan Green and local history-related events and programs open to members and the community at large.
Since its founding, the Society has received numerous donations that were not always properly documented and cataloged. The assessment report will include a prioritized list of recommendations for improving the care and management of its collections. These recommendations will help decide where to invest limited resources, inform board members as to collections care concerns, provide documentation that can support development of a long-range collection/preservation plan, and be used to fundraise for collection projects.
The Collections Assessment Grant is a program managed by Conservation ConneCTion and is supported through a partnership grant of the Connecticut Heritage Foundation at the Connecticut State Library and CT Humanities (CTH), with funding provided by the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development.
