Waterford Historical Society (CT)
The Waterford Historical Society, Inc. was pleased to host Waterford resident Gwen Rice of Freedom First Wildlife Rehab on May 13, 2023 at the Stacy Barn on Jordan Green. Her fascinating program, "Owls Among Us," held an attentive audience captive as she related her work to rehabilitate injured owls at her home and farm on Dayton Road in Waterford and speak out for the banning of rodenticides (rat poisons) that can kill these magnificent creatures. Connecticut is home to 8 types of owls, all federally protected and one of which, the barn owl, is endangered. Owls are indeed among us in Waterford and New London, though they do their best to camouflage themselves!
