Waterford Historical Society (CT)

On November 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Dirty Blue Shirts living historians returned to our Jordan Green historic buildings with a strong focus on the Thanksgiving holiday:  What that meant for our mid-19th-century Waterford ancestors: food, family, gratitude for what they had, remembering those who were gone, charity for those who had less.

Highlights of the day:

-  Hearth cooking in the Beebe-Phillips House, chicken and corn bread!

- The antique cider press was in action in Stacy Barn; fresh cider was offered from a local farm.

- Historic buildings were open for folks to learn about what life in Waterford was like "way back then."

- Strolls though Stacy Barn, filled with farming equipment from Waterford's agricultural past.

- Visits to the popular, bustling blacksmith shop, open for observation and purchases of hand-forged items.

- A raffle to win a beautiful print of a watercolor "Graniteville."

- The patriotic music of the Nutmeg Fife & Drum Corps on Jordan Green!

In the true spirit of Thanksgiving, visitors were so generous, remembering to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Waterford Food Bank!

The event was free and open to the public. Donations to the Waterford Historical Society are gratefully accepted!
