The Waterford Historical Society, Inc. is soliciting 1 or 2 original works of art from Connecticut artists for the 4th annual “Art In Waterford” event on historic Jordan Green in Waterford, Connecticut in August 2022.
Deadline for submissions is May 15, 2022.
You do not need to be a member of the Waterford Historical Society to enter. (Individual annual membership is $25.)
See the prospectus below for entry information and requirements. Download the entry form.
The juried art exhibit for contemporary artists will be located in the Margaret Stacy Barn. A well-known Waterford artist from years past will be featured in the historic Beebe-Phillips House. Students from Clark Lane Middle School, Waterford High School, The Williams School and Saint Bernard School will display their artwork in the 18th-century schoolhouse as future artists. In addition, there will be musical offerings, and the blacksmith's forge will be operating.
In addition to the “Past + Present + Future” exhibits, any artists who are interested in participating in plein air painting during the event weekend are encouraged to respond by email to artinwaterford@gmail.com, indicating which day and approximate time they would like to participate. The historic buildings on Waterford’s Jordan Green make fabulous painting subjects for interested artists, and anyone can join in! Direct any questions to Kristen Widham, Pres., 860-287-4137, or artinwaterford@gmail.com.
The theme of the exhibition is anything that relates to southeastern Connecticut. This could be people, towns, historic buildings, iconic scenes, objects, rivers, shorelines, etc.
Both two- and three-dimensional art will be considered, including photography. All art must be the original work of the artist. No work done under instruction or tutelage is allowed.
Each artist may enter one or two works for consideration. There are no entry fees. No prints of paintings may be entered.
Two-dimensional pieces must measure no more than 48 inches on a side. Three-dimensional pieces must measure no more than 30 inches in any dimension, and weigh no more than 50 pounds.
Artists may offer their work for sale at the price listed on the entry form. “Not for sale” entries are allowed. For any sold pieces, the Waterford Historical Society will retain 25% of the sale price, and remit 75% to the artist.
Deadline for entries is midnight, May 15, 2022. A list of accepted pieces will be posted on this website before June 1, 2022.
All entries must be submitted in the form of a high-quality JPG image (up to three images in the case of three-dimensional art), labeled as follows:
last-name_first-name_title_entry-number
In the case of three-dimensional art, the letters “a”, “b” or “c” may be appended, depending on the number of images submitted. For two-dimensional art, images should be at least 1000 pixels on the shortest side, less than 5MB total size, and should depict just the art (i.e., no frames).
The entry form and images must be sent to artinwaterford@gmail.com. If it is not possible to submit entry information by email, the entry form and printed images may be sent to Kristen Widham, Waterford Historical Society, Inc., P.O. Box 117, Waterford, CT, 06385 and postmarked no later than Thursday, May 12, 2022.
Artists of accepted pieces are expected to deliver and place their works in Margaret Stacy Barn on Jordan Green, Waterford on Friday, August 5, between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Margaret Stacy Barn has many historic pieces of equipment and exhibits and, for that reason, no art will be hung on the walls. Instead, all two-dimensional art will be displayed on easels and three-dimensional art on pedestals. The Waterford Historical Society can provide a limited number of easels and pedestals, but artists are encouraged to provide their own portable displays.
The show will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, and Sunday, August 7, 2022. Artists must remove their work between 4pm and 6pm on Sunday, August 7.
